Today I've tried installing MOSS 2007 in standalone for the first time. I had never tried standalone before, always went for the advanced/complete deal.
As it has been widely documented by the SharePoint community, when you do it, you're headed for trouble if you're doing it on a DC, which I did... You end up with a «The trial period for this product has expired» error.
As it is also widely documented by the SharePoint community, Microsoft has released a patch to fix this, so I downloaded it and proceeded to install... the problem was still manifesting itself... I tried iisreset, rebooting, mumbo jumbo... nothing solved it...

A standalone installation on a domain controller gives an error message that the trial period has expired when you navigate to the portal site. Apply this workaround to the server on which you have installed SharePoint Server. |
... what now??
So I turned to search engines and searched for the error message and MOSS 2007. The results turned my attention to this, where you can find a link to download «Installing Moss 2007 beta 2 on a domain controller workaround».
Be sure to read the readme file. IISRESET afterwards and this fixed the problem
Hope this helps someone out there.
